Living Room, Two Ways

livingroom2

While I was doing our taxes the other day (UGH.) I had to look up the current market value of our rental home (DOUBLE UGH DEPRESSING.), but while I was doing that depressing, onerous task, I came across pictures of our rental home as the renters had decorated it. It was really fun to see what they'd done with the place. And fun to see the different ways that two different people would decorate the same space. So let's compare: That was how the living room looked when we moved out. And … [Read more...]

Finally, Our Modern Glamour Bedroom Reveal

IMG_4387Watermarked

Okay, so back a million years ago (Okay, in October 2012), I promised a bedroom makeover and showed you all our terrible bedroom and my gray and yellow bedroom moodboard plan. Then half a million years ago (Okay, in December 2012), I showed you one step of the makeover, my nightstand transformation. And now, today, I'm finally back with all the beautiful pictures and full details of my bedroom makeover! The bed made such a big difference to me. It's the first real bed we've ever owned. … [Read more...]

Birthday Bedroom Bonanza!

IMG_4109

Today, I present the "before" photos of our bedroom. Hang in there, because it's gonna look rough, but there's a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. This is the sad, but true, state of our bedroom today. It gets worse than this though. Boxes of winter clothes, boxes of framed art to hang on the wall, a nasty ironing board. The one potential bright spot, our wedding photos, marred by all the junk on top of the dresser. But after all that depression, don't leave! I have a vision. I … [Read more...]

Our New Home: Living Room

IMG_3714

The living room was the second room I started to seriously focus on. We spend the most time in it, and I had a good idea of where I was going with it. I wanted it to be put together by Jaye's birthday party, which was only a little more than a month after we moved in. But I think I made it, don't you? The low white benches are hand-me-downs from my sister Lillian. Her room is getting a little upgrade now that she's starting high school. I love that they provide toy storage as well as a low … [Read more...]

Our New Home: Jaye’s Room

jayenursery

Jaye's room was the biggest priority for me when we first moved in. I had it unpacked and everything hung up within a day or so. I really wanted her to feel at home. And it really seemed to help. When we first moved she was so clingy, but seemed the most comfortable in her room.  Jaye's furniture stayed the same, but now it's all in the same room. The rocking chair and side table, used to be upstairs near her port-a-crib where she slept at night. The changing table was in the hallway. The … [Read more...]

Our New Home: Total Before

first-design

Finally, some pictures of our new house. Here's the layout. I love the wood floors throughout. That was super important because both Phil and I HATE carpet. The kitchen is linoleum and the bathroom is tile. Everything else is wood. When you enter the house the coat closet is in front of you, the garage to your right, and you are looking into the dining room (but not from this angle). The dining room is next to the kitchen, which is nice because in our Nokomis house, we couldn't quite figure out … [Read more...]

Nursery: Reveal!

IMG_1634

The full tour of Jaye's nursery is finally here. This is the view from the door. We've got the futon mattress on the floor for practical purposes. It's one of our favorite places to lay and play and roll around. Most evenings when Phil comes home from work you'll find our whole family in here. We moved the frame out so that if Jaye rolls off accidentally, it's not so far to the floor. To the right is a small stool with the humidifier on it. Keeping the humidifier going for all Jaye's naps has … [Read more...]
