A Hodge Podge of Things

Sapphire Ring

Things I haven't gotten around to blogging about: Our awesome spring break trip to Great Wolf Lodge in the Wisconsin Dells. We went with some friends (Phil's best friend from high school) who have a two-year old little boy. It was totally stress-free and perfect. The kids napped at the same time, the kids splashed and had a great time at the water park, and then the kids went to bed at the same time, and we played games for several hours. It was a really fun, relaxing trip. The perfect … [Read more...]

Easter Adventures Pt. 2: First Easter Egg Hunt

First Easter Egg Hunt

On Sunday, Jaye had her first Easter egg hunt and she loved it! Here's how it all went down. My family came over after church with Kentucky Fried Chicken, a tradition from when I was growing up. We used to always get KFC and go to a park for an Easter egg hunt. Grant and I loved those hunts, so much that when they were done, we made Mom and Dad hide all the (now empty) eggs again, just for the fun of looking. After we'd had our fill of fried chicken and mashed potatoes, we all headed out to … [Read more...]

DFW in Review: Klyde Warren Park

Klyde Warren

Last week, Jaye and I headed downtown with some other baby friends to check out the new Klyde Warren Park. It's a crazy new park that was actually built over the Woodall Rogers freeway in downtown Dallas. We had a blast. There are lots of cool different areas and activities. Lots of green space. Fountains. A reading room. Yarn wrapped trees. Food trucks. And lots of free activities listed on their website (like yoga and a croquet league!). There's a dog park section, too. But, first … [Read more...]

Growing a Scent

IMG_39983

There's a new friend in our backyard-a jasmine plant! When we were at Home Depot a few weekends ago, we walked past some jasmine plants. The smell wafted past my nose and immediately compelled (literally forced, I could not resist) me to put a pot in our cart. I've never grown a jasmine before, but it's one of my very favorite scents. I planted it near the backdoor hoping the scent will waft past each time I open the backdoor (I would then waste a lot of cool air just opening and closing the … [Read more...]

Jaye’s First Birthday: Burlap Banner Wreath

IMG_3931-0011

When I last talked about Jaye's first birthday party, I'd created a Mississippi River party mood board, and designed and mailed some awesome river steamboat invitations. Now, as I write this, the party is over! It happened last weekend, and it was a raging success. Full details and pictures forthcoming, but first you have to endure the rest of my crafting and preparations for the party. The first thing the guests saw as they arrived was the easy burlap banner wreath I made for the front … [Read more...]

Growing More than Just Babies

Raspberry bushes in the backyard. We planted three little tiny plants two years ago. Now look what we have! The three peony bushes that were here when we moved in. I just put cages around them the other day. Every year, I wait too long to put the cages on and then it's hard work because the plants have grown so tall.  Vegetables! I planted 6 tomato plants of three different varieties. I also planted jalapeno, habanero, and bell peppers. Hopefully, we'll get more to harvest without Margo's … [Read more...]
