In April and May, I got into a little bit of a dyeing phase. I had some old comfy jeans that were getting super faded, and I seized upon them as the next target of my dyeing experiments. I was hoping to rejuvenate them by making them a dark wash. Dark wash baggy comfy jeans are so much classier looking than faded baggy comfy jeans.
So I bought some dye at Joann’s and used Dana’s Easy Fabric Dyeing tutorial.
Here are the jeans before. Disclaimer: I don’t actually have an after picture. The jeans are packed away right now. And I wasn’t really very happy with the result.
I dyed them in a giant orange bucket in our laundry room sink. I added some salt, like the tutorial suggests, and stirred them around every now and then.
The process was certainly easy, but I think maybe would work better on a smaller amount of fabric. On the jeans, it seemed like there were spots that didn’t soak up the dye very well and looked lighter and kind of funny. I was also not super pleased with the jeans afterward because the color was so blue. They didn’t look nice and dark wash and good. They looked kind of like super blue jeans from Wal-Mart or somewhere tacky like that.
